- The proportion of breast cancer patients who removed a healthy breast to prevent future cancers more than tripled over 10 years, but the procedure didn’t improve their survival odds, a U.S. study finds. Based on a decade of data on half a million women diagnosed with cancer in one breast that had not spread to other parts of the body, researchers found that removal of the second, healthy breast rose from 4 percent of patients in 2002 to nearly 13 percent in 2012.
- Many kids who develop urinary tract infections tied to the E. coli bacteria are now failing to respond to antibiotic treatment, a new review warns. The culprit, according to the British researchers: Drug resistance, following years of over-prescribing and misusing antibiotics.
- A new study carried out by the Heinrich Böll Foundation in Germany has found that 99.6% of the German population has been contaminated by the herbicide glyphosate.Glyphosate is the active ingredient in the world’s most widely used herbicides, such as Roundup.

- GlaxoSmithKline fined less than $100,000 for killing 14 babies during vaccine trials? In reacting to recent news that pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline accidentally dumped 12 gallons of live, concentrated polio virus into a Belgian river, it is important to remember that the company has a long history of safety violations in its vaccine business. In 2012, for example, an Argentinean judge found the company guilty of conducting illegal vaccine trials that led to the deaths of 14 babies.
- A new bill was introduced in the Idaho Senate Health and Welfare Committee February 10, 2016 and has passed the full Senate. The next step is a hearing in the House Health and Welfare Committee that will be scheduled in the coming days. SB 1294 would permit pharmacists to prescribe and administer vaccines to children 6 years of age or older. Legislation already allows pharmacists to vaccinate 12 year-olds, this bill reduces the age to 6 year olds.
- Children whose mothers were vitamin D deficient during pregnancy are at nearly double the risk for developing multiple sclerosis later in life, according to a study by researchers at Harvard University.
- Remember all the news about concussion prevention for football players? Well, now at the college level, rules to lessen head injuries might be causing more knee, ankle problems. The entire trip—with no set end date, per Today.com—is being documented on Facebook via Driving Miss Norma, which has received more than 63,000 likes and 100,000 page views, per the Epoch Times.
- In another amazing-yet-obvious find by healthfinder.gov, physically fit people may bounce back better after heart attacks. Survivors who had exercised regularly beforehand were less prone to depression afterwards, study finds. Interesting. So, if you take care of your body in general, and something bad does happen…your generally healthy body is then able to handle it better and heal more quickly? Wow!!
- In less exciting news, Genetic modification using new technologies like CRISPR has been called a “weapon of mass destruction and proliferation” by James Clapper, U.S. Director of National Intelligence, in his annual Worldwide Threat Assessment report. It can locate a specific DNA strand in a person’s genome, delete it, and replace it with a new DNA sequence designed by genetic engineers. That’s quite a powerful technology that could be misused in the wrong hands.
- In addition to covering up lead poisoning in Flint, Michigan, the EPA also quietly raised glyphosate limits in foods to levels that will cause cancer. Wait, didn’t we recently report that the US was going to start at least testing for glyphosate levels in food, and admit that it was dangerous? But what does testing do if the standard levels are just being raised?
- And for the winner of the day – SHAMELESS: Stanford scientists urge pregnant women to inject themselves with mercury to maybe slightly reduce chance of influenza. Immune response in pregnant women reacts more aggressively than in nonpregnant women. Instead of applauding this result, scientists warn that too many immune cells can be a bad thing, for example, when there’s an infection in your lung and it needs air space, explained the study’s senior author. Hmmm.

- Zika has been linked to birth defects. Now it may be causing paralysis?

The prevalence of human papillomavirus (HPV) infections among teenage girls in the United States has dropped by more than 60 percent since the vaccine against the cancer-causing virus was introduced a decade ago, according to a new study. However, researchers are still disappointed that only 42% of girls in the recommended age rage have received the vaccine which requires 3 doses over 6 months. Could this drop in numbers also just be due to an increased awareness of the dangers of STD’s?
- March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month, and the perfect time to think about colon health. Less than half of people aged 50 and older get tested for colon cancer, but early detection can save lives. Colorectal cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death in the US, yet it has a 90 percent cure rate when detected early, Rather than waiting around to see if we get it…what can we be doing pro-actively to detox and clean our gut and colon?? Remember, we have the ability every day to put good things into our system, and help the bad stuff get out.
- Is there a treatment for cancer that is 10,000 times more effective than chemo? Yes, and it’s in your kitchen according to recently published study in PLoS. It indicates that a substance found in ginger called 6-shogaol is a potent agent in fighting breast cancer—much more potent than chemotherapy and much less dangerous. That’s fantastic news! Adding fresh ginger into the diet via cold-pressed juice is a great option for anyone!
- It probably won’t seem like much of a surprise, but a recent study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has revealed that a stunning number of Americans are still not getting enough sleep. According to a report from Entrepreneur, the latest surveys revealed that adults in all 50 states and the District of Columbia are not getting the amount of sleep they need. 7 hours is the recommended amount, and apparently those in the mid-west plains states are the best rested. The further south you go, and especially Hawaii get the least sleep. Watch out for the walking dead in a Starbucks near you!
- Speaking of sleep, having sleep apnea may increase the risk of chronic kidney disease, according to a report from Taiwan.After taking other health factors into account, sleep apnea increased the risk of kidney disease by 58%. By comparison, hypertension (a known risk factor for kidney disease) increased the risk by 17%. Diabetes was a stronger predictor than both other factors, more than doubling the risk of kidney disease, the research team reported online. In general, the healthier your body is, the better you will sleep, so all of this factors are tied together, and need to be treated in tandem. Tonight, maybe try a little yoga or deep breathing before bed. Turn off your wifi, imagine your in the middle of no-where South Dakota…and sleep like a baby!

- Now dogs? So sad, first it was the kids of Flint found to have been tainted by lead, attributed by many to the area’s toxic water. Now two dogs who live in the vicinity of the Michigan city have tested positive for lead toxicity—the first two pups to be confirmed with this in state records in five years, the Detroit Free Press reports.
- Never fear, Beyonce’s here! The Super Bowl star is the latest to join others such as Mark Ruffalo as we mentioned on yesterday’s show, along with, Diddy, Mark Wahlberg, Big Sean and others in helping Flint. Most of the aid comes in the form of donating bottled water, some are also offering cash to help the city clean up the mess. Environmental activist Erin Brockovich is also on the case, check out the clip of her on Real Time with Bill Maher. Erin pro-ports that we are indeed in a National Water Crisis. The mix of ammonia, chlorine, organic matter, and other toxins, is going un-reported, and causing all kinds of health issues, including miscarriages in women.
- Dr. Buttar has been a champion of the concept of using IV Chelation to cleanse the heavy metals out of the victims, yet this life-saving treatment about to be banned?
- In hopeful news, soy may actually be useful in protecting against the negative reproductive effects of BPA – the poisoning from plastics. BPA is known to mimic estrogen in the body, and therefore it’s believed to disrupt conception and implantation of a fertilized egg in the womb, the researchers write in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism. Experiments in rodents suggest that soy, which also interacts with estrogen receptors, could offset or mitigate those effects of BPA, they add.

- Do you know someone with asthma? Then check out this study – hopefully not funded by the dairy association. According to the study, high-fat, un-processed cow’s milk help protect against asthma. Research may show that drinking large amounts of processed milk is a contributing factor to developing child-hood asthma.
- Speaking of un-processed…organic food is finding vindication for it’s price. The most infamous fact about organic food is that it’s expensive—about 47% more expensive, according to a recent analysis from Consumer Reports. But a new review study published in Nature Plants analyzed everything research currently knows about organic farming versus the conventional kind and found that organic offers a lot of good that outweighs its sticker shock

Dr. Buttar joins us to lend his expertise to the Flint Michigan lead-poisoning crisis. On January 5, a state of emergency was finally declared in Flint, Michigan. Having switched back to Detroit water in October 2015, the city of Flint still had a long way to go before their lead-poisoned water was once again safe to drink. Nevertheless, it seemed as if the recent crisis never even took place when Flint decided to dish out around 1,800 water shut-off notices in November. These were to arrive at their respective households early in January, just as the state of emergency was declared. At the time, residents were receiving bottled water due to the unsafe nature of the tap water they were still being charged for.

- We wanted to update our readers on a story we recently published, titled Indiana Baby Dies In His Sleep Days After Receiving 6 Vaccine Doses. Autopsy results have revealed baby Michael Whitesell’s liver and vascular systems were congested when he passed away. The coroner ruled one year-old Michael’s death as Sudden Unexplained Infant Death, due to natural causes, and the specific vaccines were not listed on the autopsy report. At the age of one, on October 19, 2015, Michael Whitesell was taken in for the routine 12-month well baby check-up, where he was injected with the MMR, varicella, hepatitis A, and flu vaccines. This was six vaccine doses given to him, in four injections. He let out a scream his parents had never heard before. Three days later, he had a fever and was given Tylenol. He went to bed that night and died in his sleep, sometime the following morning. After he was found, his father Thomas performed CPR on him, until EMS showed up and took over. Once investigators showed up, they tried to revive Michael, but it was accepted he was already gone and resuscitation efforts ceased.
